The life of a family of peach farmers in a small village in Catalonia changes when the owner of their large estate dies and his lifetime heir decides to sell the land, suddenly threatening their livelihood.



Carla Simón

Carla Simón (1986) grew up in a small Catalan town. She studied Audiovisual Communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and later at the University of California, where she shot the experimental short films Women (2009) and Lovers (2010) with Marco Businaro. In 2011 she received a scholarship from La Caixa to study for a master's degree at the London Film School, where she directed the short films Born Positive (2012), Lipstick (2013), Those little things (2014) and Llacune (2016).

Verano 1993 (2017) is Carla's autobiographical debut. It premiered at the 2017 Berlinale, where it won the Best First Feature Award and the Generation Kplus Grand Jury Prize. The film has collected more than 30 awards around the world, represented Spain at the Oscars, was nominated for the EFA and won three goyas, including the goya for Best New Director. Carla was also awarded as the emerging talent of the Women in Motion at Cannes 2018. Her latest short films are After Also (2019) and Correspondences (2020), an epistolary conversation with Dominga Sotomayor, premiered at Visions du Réel, the New York Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival, among others.

Alcarràs (2022) is her second feature film, which had its international premiere in the Official Section of the 72nd Berlinale, where it received the Golden Bear, making Carla Simón the first Spanish woman to win the golden statuette. In Berlin. After passing through the German festival, Alcarràs was presented at the Malaga Festival, in the Official Section out of competition. In April it premiered in commercial theaters in Spain, and has come to exceed 350,000 viewers. In September 2022, it was announced that it would represent Spain at the 95th edition of the Oscars, for best international film.
