The portraits Óscar Fernández Orengo created of Spanish filmmakers by photographing them out of the limelight are still on tour. The ‘Through My Eyes’ exhibition produced by ALCINE (Alcalá de Henares Film Festival) will be on show in the Berlin Cervantes Institute until the 28th of February to coincide with the 59th Berlinale, one of the five most important film festivals in the world, scheduled for the 5th to the 15th of February.
Berlín is the third city visited by the exhibition after stays in Alcalá de Henares and Manila (Philippines). It will subsequently be taken to Prague (Czech Republic) and Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) among other places.
In ‘Through My Eyes’ Óscar Fernández Orengo breaks down the barrier between the filmmaker and the person. He gets the subjects of the exhibition to step out of the cinematic maelstrom to reveal a more personal side. The photographs portray them naturally, dispossessed of any professional accoutrements.
The project was backed by a cast of renowned filmmakers from the Spanish industry. Óscar Fernández Orengo’s camera captured professionals with long careers of the stature of Marc Recha, Bigas Luna, Carlos Saura, Isabel Coixet and Ángeles González-Sinde. ‘Through My Eyes’ looks at them from an unprecedented angle to create an exhibition with a different and personal viewpoint.
The photography show, composed of more than forty pieces, is complemented by the publication of a catalogue containing all the images adapted to the physical nature of the original works. The initiative was undertaken in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the AECID (Spanish International Agency for Cooperation and Development).
