ALCINE38 Opens the Inscription Period for its National Competition
ALCINE38 is getting ready to go. The National Short Film Competition has begun the process of searching for a successor to 'Traumalogía' (Daniel Sánchez-Arévalo, 2007) on the list of winners of the Alcalá de Henares / Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival, to be held for the thirty eighth time from the 7th to the 15th of November this year.

The organization has opened the inscription period for one of its most anticipated sections. The deadline for the entry of short films interested in competing in the National Competition with almost 33,000 euros worth of prizes is the 1st of September 2008. Work selected by a committee set up for this purpose will be entered for the fifteen awards in the category, including the three 'Ciudad de Alcalá' prizes worth 9,000, 6,000 and 4,200 euros respectively.

The National Competition is open to any short film produced and/or directed in Spain. The work entering the competition must be presented in 16 or 35 millimetre format (either silent or with incorporated optical sound) or in Betacam SP PAL. It is also compulsory for the films to have been made after the 1st of January 2007 and to not have been selected at previous ALCINE festivals. The maximum length of the short films is one hour.

Those interested must meet a series of general conditions and norms for the formalization of the inscription process, which can be consulted on the festival's official website, www.alcine.org. A form must be filled out and sent with the DVD and the dialog list. The short films selected must be sent in exhibition format by the 20th of October 2008. The authors of the work chosen will be invited to the Festival on the screening date of the short film. Accommodation and meals will be paid for by the organization.

Those short films that are accepted for the National Competition will be entered for a total of fifteen awards. The above-mentioned 'Ciudad de Alcalá' awards, the 'Caja Madrid' award for the best script, the six other 'Caja Madrid' trophies (best actress, best actor, best film editing, best original music, best art direction and best special effects), the 'Technicolor' award for the best photography, the 'Canal +' award, the 'Higher School of Sound and Images (CES)' award for the best sound, the 'Young Persons Department of the Town Hall of Alcalá de Henares' audience award and the 'Comunidad de Madrid' award.
