Everything starts today. The official start date of the Festival may be the 4th of November, but for those of us faithful to tradition, ALCINE is kicked off with a concert. Other years it was Jorge Dréxler, Najwa Nimri, Bebe or Marlango; this time round it’s Miren Iza and her band Tulsa who will be providing the Festival’s soundtrack. And this year, the concert does not only reference film, it is related to one specific film, "The Romantic Exiles"; the penultimate film released by Jonás Trueba: Three friends set off on a journey for no apparent reason. Some would say they are off for the last big bash of their youth, while others might point to the decadence of masculinity. The Romantic Exiles discusses that a little and other things no less transcendental, on a long, and at the same time short journey, during which the characters are disposed to encounter idyllic and also fleeting love affairs, the only mission being to be surprised and to continue to feel the joy of life.
The lyrics and music of Miren form another narrative thread running through the film and provide an emotional and tranquil counterpoint to this road movie, which is also, as in the tradition, a journey to the interior of the characters themselves.
