It can be done. What you see on the screen is not so far removed. There are a few basic rules, a road of discovery. The
3rd Low-Budget Filmmaking Workshops with its '
Zero Budget' motto aims to bring everyday filmgoers face to face with the practicalities of short filmmaking.
The
workshop on low-budget filmmaking, to be run by Óscar Martín and Elena Muñoz, from the El Ojo Mecánico production company will be held from the
13th to the 16th of November in the Regional Archaeology Museum. Martín and Muñoz will use four morning sessions to explain to those attending the steps required to create a short film in four days.
Scriptwriting, planning, shooting, actors and editing are just some of the areas to be covered by these
specialists in 'underground' culture. Essential knowledge and skills to leave you with no excuse for not quenching your thirst for cinematographic fulfilment.
The low-budget workshop is the soul of
'Zero Budget' but is by no means alone. Just imagine being taught script-writing by
Nacho Vigalondo, or how to direct actors by
David Planell, both of whom frequently enter the competitive sections of
ALCINE with their short film work. Nacho is a professional actor, while David has enjoyed a long and successful script-writing career. Now add to that a special effects workshop given by
Daniel Reguilón, a jack-of-all-trades from the artistic department. And lastly a master class from
Hugo Serra (Shui Films productions) entitled
'cheap-films', to provide a platform for those brave souls who have a feature film made but cannot find anyone to distribute it, the final and complicated last step.
The
week's schedule of topic-based sessions is organized as follows: Scriptwriting, Tuesday 13th; Directing actors, Wednesday 14th; F/X workshop, Thursday 15th; and 'Cheap-films', Friday 16th. In contrast to the low-budget film workshop (from 10:00 to 14:00), these sessions will be held in the evening (from 16:00 to 20:00).

accreditations section. There is a limit of twenty places. Entry to evening sessions does not require inscription and is free until capacity is reached. An instructive and fun way of learning the mysterious arts of low-budget cinema; a culture all of its own.
