At a time when cinema could not take advantage of the Internet, social networks, or streaming platforms, film advertising and promotion basically focussed on printing. Posters, press books and lobby cards were the main vehicle for advertising the leading actors in a film, its subject matter and its genre. Lobby cards were used to decorate the walls of movie theatres. Around eight cards were produced for each film, often coloured by hand, sometimes just simple photos of the film itself, and others, designer adaptations, recreations of the main poster, and illustrations in which the stars of the moment could be easily identified.
Notorious Ediciones is here with its magnificent collection of pieces from Hollywood Classics: seventy lobby cards of some of the most well-known films from last century.
We will be able to enjoy one of these collections of eight pieces in its entirety, 'The Man Who Knew Too Much', by Alfred Hitchcock. The others are individual pieces made for timeless films such as 'The Apartment', The Best Years of Our Lives', 'Rebecca', 'The Bridge on the River Kwai', 'To kill a Mockingbird', and 'Limelight'.
A stroll through some of the most well-known American classics from the thirties to the seventies.
The exhibition is being held in Santa María la Rica until the 22nd of December.
