ALCINE39 crowns its winners
ALCINE39 is now history. And a long reel of quality film remains embossed on our memories; a wide range of types, genres, origins and lengths of film, and audience figures that validate the vigour of a highly consolidated event. The future will conserve the list of winners chosen by different juries brought together especially for each of the three competitive sections: the National Short Film Competition, European Competition and Open Screen for New Directors.

The Jury of the cornerstone of ALCINE; the National Competition, sung the praises of Elías León Siminiani. His twofold documentary work presented separately, 'El tránsito' and 'Límites: 1ª persona', won the first 'City of Alcalá' Award ex aequo. Siminiani takes the place of David González ('El tiempo prestado') on the list of ALCINE prize winners. The Second Prize went to Fernando Franco, the director of 'Tu(A)mor', and the Third Prize to Luis Zamora for 'Daniel's Journey'. 'La sesión de maquillaje', by Covadonga Jiménez, won a special jury mention.

In the acting section the prizes went to Maria Milesi ('Lo quiero y lo espero') and Sergio Peris-Mencheta ('Metrópolis Ferry'). In the other competitive sections, the three awards for 'The Lady and the Reaper', by Javier Recio stand out: Best Original Music, Canal + Award and Audience Award. The 'Comunidad de Madrid' Award went to 'Epílogo', by Zoe Berriatúa, another of the short films to appear twice on the list of winners as it also received the Technicolor Award for Best Photography.

The European Competition continued to grow in size and prestige. The Norwegian short film 'Pasjon', directed by Marius Ektvedt and Gunhild Enger, won the First 'ALCINE' Award. The second and third places on the continental podium were taken by, 'Echo' (Magnus Von Horn), and 'Lögner', (Jonas Odell). 'After Tomorrow', by Emma Sullivan, received a special mention, as did 'Crossing', by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra. The audience award went to 'Signalis' by Adrian Flückiger.

'Yo, también' wins Open Screen for New Directors

Open Screen for New Directors is another of ALCINE's most consolidated sections, and clear proof of the fact that Spanish cinema is replete with undiscovered and contrasting talent. The new crop of films directed by debut directors has established the reputation of the partnership comprising Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, the driving force behind 'Yo, también'. After its excellent reception and plaudits received at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where its two leading actors, Pablo Pineda and Lola Dueñas, both received prizes, the audience of ALCINE awarded it the Open Screen for New Directors award. In the final vote 'Yo, también' came out ahead of 'Aparecidos' (Paco Cabezas), 'El truco del manco' (Santiago Zannou), 'La vergüenza' (David Planell), 'Pagafantas' (Borja Cobeaga) and 'Tres díes amb la familia' (Mar Coll).
