ALCINE39 reveals entries for National and European Competitions

ALCINE39 beefs up the programming. The Alcalá de Henares/Comunidad de Madrid Film Festival has revealed the names and surnames of the short films entered for the National and European Competitions. These two mainstays of the event, alongside the Open Screen for New Directors section, are the only competitive sections.

The National Competition is the ALCINE heavyweight, a longstanding section consolidated over recent decades during which short films and their directors have shown off their wares and set trends in national filmmaking. A total of 38 short films aspire this year to winning the Top ‘Ciudad de Alcalá’ Award and to following in the footsteps of last year’s winner El tiempo prestado, written and directed by David González. Work that’s impossible to pigeon hole, crossovers between genres, of varying lengths, and which constitutes a mirror in which we observe the evolution and health of the format in Spain.

The final list of participants in the National Competition is composed of the following short films: ‘9’ (Peña Sánchez); ‘55’ (Darío Paso); ‘(En)terrados’ (Álex Llora); ‘¡No es fácil, mi’ja!’ (Eva Ariño, Roger Caubet); ‘A la sierra de Armenia’ (Juan Rodríguez); ‘Alma’ (Rodrigo Blaas); ‘Asesinado por el cielo’ (Marc Benería); ‘Casual’ (Aitor Echeverría); ‘Daniel’s journey’ (Luis Zamora); ‘Die archives Von C.G. European Competition

Last year’s top prize in the booming European Short Film Competition went to the Icelandic film ‘Rattlesnakes’, by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, the story of a man who decides to radically change the direction of his life, and starts by buying himself a pair of cowboy boots. This will be the fourth year the section has been held now, and it gains in confidence and importance as every year goes by. Short films from Germany, Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Sweden will compete for the three awards available, above all the First Alcine Award.

The following work will participate in the European section: ‘Polar’ (Michael Koch); ‘Celluloidiva’ (Harald Schleicher); ‘Never drive a car when you’re dead’ (Gregor Dashuber); ‘Our wonderful nature’ (Tomer Eshed); ‘Germania wurst’ (Volker Schlecht); ‘N.N.’ (Michel Klöfkorn); ‘L’Été’ (Vania Leturcq); ‘Hanasaari a’ (Hannes Vartiainen, Pekka Veikkolainen); ‘L’ amertume du chocolat’ (Lucile Chaufour); ‘Le genou blessé et l’homme debout’ (Yann Chayia); ‘Classes vertes’ (Alexis Van Stratum); ‘Tic tac toe’ (Romain Raynaldy); ‘Fard’ (David Alapont, Luis Briceño); ‘Mémoire fossile’ (Arnaud Demuynk, Anne-Laure Totaro); ‘Tous les enfants s’apellent Dominique’ (Nicolas Silhol); ‘Odigies Chriseos’ (Costas Yiallourides); ‘Kishalak… Nagyhalak’ (Livia Gyarmathy); ‘Atlantic’ (Conor Ferguson); ‘Pasjon’ (Marius Ektvedt, Gunhild Enger); ‘Echo’ (Magnus Van Horn); ‘Mental traffic’ (Marcin Wojciechowski); ‘Szczesciarze’ (Tomasz Wolski); ‘Tam gdzie slonce sie nie spieszy’ (Matej Bobrik); ‘Um dia frio’ (Cláudia Varejâo); ‘Arca d’água’ (André Gil Mata); ‘Jade’ (Daniel Elliott); ‘After tomorrow’ (Emma Sullivan); ‘Crossing’ (Silvana Aguirre Zegarra); ‘Storstad’ (Rafael Deugenio); ‘Stig’ (Tomas Norström, Henrik Gyllenskiöld); ‘Logner’ (Jonas Odell); and ‘Signalis’ (Adrian Flückiger).
